Just Do It.
I’m a planner
Which in real life translates into me having a plan B for my A; a plan C for my B…(you know what I mean).
Being nerdy also means I ask a lot of questions, especially when I’m stepping into a plan someone else made for me.
After all, what if they have no contingencies and I’m left to bear the brunt of their lack of a plan?
Jesus is about to enter Jerusalem.
He already knows what is going to happen so he instructs two of his disciples to go on ahead.
He tells them they will find a donkey.
They are to untie the donkey and if anyone asks why, they are to say the master needs it.
Sounds like a good plan right?
Err…(this is me with my hand raised)
What if there isn’t any colt?
What if instead of asking us questions they pounce on us for stealing?
What happens if they ask who the master is, and what right he has to their donkey?
There is no record of the disciples asking any questions. As far as we know, they just obeyed and things worked out fine.
I’m going to guess why.
They remembered the last time they had seen Jesus operate in the supernatural.
In three of the gospels, Jesus healed the blind. In one gospel he raised Lazarus from the dead.
I’m sure they remembered Christ the wonder-worker and believed.
If He says there is going to be a colt, there is going to be a colt.
If He says we should go get the colt, then off we go.
It’s easy to come under instruction when you know you’re dealing with someone of superior ability and resources.
They obeyed and ended up fulfilling prophecy.
There is a tiny problem: God tends to skimp on the details when He’s giving out instructions- or maybe that’s just me.
My typical response is quite different from that of the disciples.
What if…?
In case…?
Is there a back up…?
It probably will help to remember that I’m dealing with superior power.
It probably will help to understand that He’s seen all the possibilities and has taken care of the what if’s that I haven’t even thought about.
Maybe that’s you too.
Maybe if you remembered the last pickle He brought you out of, you wouldn’t question His instructions.
That’s true for me and who knows?
Our obedience might just end up fulfilling prophecy.
