A Better View
One of the things I love about flying is the change in perspective I get.
I am a window seat kind of girl so if you ever happen to catch a flight with me, don’t ask to swap seats if you’re in an aisle seat or – God help you- in a middle seat.
Higher altitudes make for a pretty interesting view:
Highways look like drawn lines and an entire metropolis takes on the appearance of a well-constructed lego city.
Get high enough and you can barely see movement whether automobile or human.
In the view from the clouds, everything gets scaled down.
It reminds me of a couple of things.
God has a view that’s entirely different from ours. As the Almighty, He is able to alter circumstances in ways we could never dream.
Unbound by time, space or natural events, everything is subject to his command.
At 10,000 feet, we may see things differently but we don’t have the power to alter that which we do see.
God on the other hand does.
Not only does He see the big picture, He’s able to intervene on our behalf.
When God sent His Son to clean our mess, He didn’t end with Calvary, He made sure we would have His constant presence through His Spirit.
He didn’t have to.
The Almighty who can alter the universe chose to stay with us, hear our groans and see our sighs.
Our Father is tender enough to be able to understand where we’re coming from and what our particular hurts are.
Regardless of my view, I’m still dependent on the movements and navigation of the pilot.
The Lord has no such constraints
The downside of being human is that I only have one perspective at a time.
I either see things at a distance or close up.
I can’t do both so it’s hard to imagine a God who can.
I need constant reminders of a Lord who sees it all and is powerful enough to help, move, fix, heal and set free.
Problems that have persisted for generations are no match for the God who has long range vision and an even longer range of compassion.
On every descent, my view resets; The Lord has no such constraint.
He is all powerful but when I get that He is also close, I remember He’s not so high that He doesn’t care.
His lines of sight are better than any pilot could ever give.
And now that I’ve been reminded, It’s time to enjoy my view.
