In Time

Caleb

He could have been a victim

By every metric, he paid for a sin he didn’t commit.1

As one of two guys who had faith when all of Israel doubted, Caleb and Joshua did not deserve to wait for 40 years in the desert with their unbelieving contemporaries.

They deserved to inherit the promise while young, strong and able.

From the human perspective, time is finite thus the more time we spend

on the sidelines of life -for whatever reason -the easier it is to enter panic mode.

Have you ever wondered if you’ll be too old to enjoy a blessing if and when it finally shows up?

I have.

God counters that fear with fact.

Moreover when God gives someone wealth and possessions and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil – this is a gift of God.

That is not my opinion.

These are the words of the wisest man who ever lived.2

The ability to enjoy.

Good mental health is not a function of age.

Being older doesn’t translate into having less fun- even if you’ve waited a long time for that fun.

The God who gives to all in different seasons, can easily offset the burden of a long wait with the gift of enjoyment.

This happened with Joshua and Caleb

Joshua led Israel into the promised land; was the only man able to command the sun3 and had his name etched in the annals of history.

That’s a lot of life in spite of a 40-year punctuation.

On the other hand, Caleb by his own testimony was as strong and fit at 85 as he was at 45.4

At a time when he was expected to past his prime, He was all in on acquiring new territory.5

Caleb’s life speaks of a God who redeems the time.

Both men lived well in all stages of their lives

Both men spent a long time waiting.

They are not alone.

After Isaac was born, Sarah lived another 37 years.6

She got the joy of seeing him from new born to toddler to teenager and also as an adult.

Moses’ story wasn’t that different. He was forgotten in exile for 40 years7 but in due time, God gave him an unmatched legacy.

When God has you wait, don’t worry about time being against you.

The one who created each moment is able to redeem each one and shield you from ravaging years.

He won’t be late when He gets it done and you will enjoy it.
