Easter

It’s the less remembered holiday.

As far as celebratory days go, Christmas has the clout- for Christians and non- Christians alike.

Then there is Easter.

A three day memorial often buried under egg hunts and picnics

Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Monday.

It’s easy to dismiss it as inconsequential based on its lack of press.

Regardless, this underrated season celebrates the one event that  underpins the entire Christian faith.

At Christmas, we celebrate God giving us Christ.

At Easter, we celebrate God GIVING us Christ.

At Christmas Jesus is born; it’s a season that remains unbroken in celebration.

At Easter, Jesus is crucified and in the greatest plot twist, he decks death in the face giving us access to the eternity God promised Adam.

Easter highlights Jesus fulfilling God’s requirement of righteousness.

A requirement we could never meet on our own.

At face value, the resurrection is what makes it a big deal

Except Jesus wasn’t the first to be resurrected.

Scripture is littered with a few who were resurrected.

The Son of God’s resurrection is unlike any other.

Jesus was the first to be resurrected never to die.

Let that sink in.

Everyone else ever resurrected would die again

Not Jesus.

He lives.

Easter is God telling us that death would not have the last laugh.

God entered the gulag reserved for us.

The resurrection is the declaration that we who believe, can trust that our greatest fear has been disarmed.

When Israel crossed the Jordan, the priests went first and the people followed.

God’s representatives stepped into a roaring Jordan and were not swept away.

Jesus aka God in the flesh, steps into the fierce river of death and those of us who see him not drown get to follow.

The promise of eternity, a place flowing with much more than milk and honey, awaits us because Christ chose to go to the cross and God raised him from the dead.

His new body after resurrection is a promise of what we will get on the other side.

A body no longer subject to the laws of decay is what we can look forward to.

Our soon-to-come body is meant to receive the goodness God had in store when he created the world.

Easter gives us a picture of the future that awaits those who believe.

It’s a picture that’s beyond beautiful.

We couldn’t redeem ourselves so God redeemed us.

Give this season more than a passing glance.

Our righteousness is based on the sacrifice of Good Friday.

Our forever is based on the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Easter is the declaration of just how bright our future is.

That’s a reason to celebrate.

Happy Easter
