Jumping in.

It’s straight out of a Marvel scene.

The young prince sneaks away from his army with a single bodyguard. His intent is to confront an opposing army far more resourced.1

That isn’t what you call a good strategy.

Jonathan didn’t leave the safety of his troops based on advice of the war council or direction from the king.

This prince of Israel chose to deploy his incredible faith in the Lord when he took this risk, believing God would come to his aid.

Vastly outnumbered and out resourced, his battle cry was God can save with either a few or with many.2

That was God’s cue to enter the fray.

I can almost see a twinkle in the ageless eyes as God rubs His eternal hands together and says – game on.

This prince of Israel refused to be categorized as sensible, stood on his faith and headed for the enemy’s camp.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

True when it comes to man.  A million times more when it comes to God.

Jonathan set off with his armor bearer and God unleashed panic among the enemy.3

Two slaughtered twenty and One headed off the rest.4

A picture of faith’s ability to move the Lord

There is a place to be cautious.

There is a time to stand for our faith.

Disney has nothing on the Almighty when it comes to crafting a come-back.

Jonathan is a great template when we’re temped to cower from an intimidating enemy.

Were we fighting alone, every calculation would matter and every strategy would be sensible.

We are not fighting alone.

 Even when we look outnumbered.

Even when the enemy has more.

The one who holds all power is on our side.

We serve a God who places premium on our faith.

A God who has never lost a battle.

He can save by a few or by many.

He more than makes up the difference.

Instead of looking at our odds, let’s look at our God.

Our faith throws down the gauntlet.

Our King will pick it up.
