Solomon was right.
The wisest man on the planet knew what he meant when he said for everything there is a season and for every purpose under heaven there is a time.
We see the seasons and know when it’s going to rain or when it’s not, and if you’re smart you’ll know the right times to plant and harvest.
Regardless, we often look at one particular occurrence or the lack of a particular occurrence in our lives and never wonder if God’s response is set for a different season.
Think about it. Abraham’s story begins with the introduction to his barren wife.
Abram, as he was called at the time, was God’s choice in spite of his inability to sire children. This fact remains until chapter 18 of the first book when God says, I will return to you at the appointed time and Sarah will have a son.
Sarah’s response is something most people are familiar with – at least most people who have dealt with long-standing unanswered prayer.
After all this time?
Like we’re apt to do, she had let time bury her dreams under the dust of disappointment.
That’s not particularly surprising as the toddler in us wants what we want immediately we ask for it.
After all, how powerful a God can we have, if He makes us wait? Right?
Wrong.
Turns out God schedules events in our lives with great intention.
Case in point. Jesus was to have a forbearer, but there was a moment scheduled on eternity’s time table for Jesus to be born, which meant his forbearer had to be born shortly before.
The parents of God’s forbearer were lots of years older than Mary, but God wasn’t going to change his mind on whom John’s parents were going to be, so He made Zechariah and Elizabeth wait.
What seamed to the world to be unanswered prayer for this faithful couple, was God actually waiting on his appointed time to move; and the one who delivered the message that it was time, was no less than the angel standing in the presence of God.
I know what you’re thinking. That was John the Baptist. He is a saint. He had a specific path for his life.
I know you’re not a saint, but you’re a child of God, and He has a specific plan for you as well.
A plan that probably has some appointed seasons that don’t fit in with your idea of right timing.
In the long run though, whose season would you rather trust? Yours or God’s?
When we wait, our ultimate hope is that the wait is worth it.
That may be one of the reasons God specializes in exceedingly and abundantly.
When Sarah’s prayer was finally answered, not only did she get a son, she got a piece of God’s plan for humanity.
Through Isaac, God gave her a glimpse of the line the Saviour of the world would come through.
I’m not sure you can comprehend what God has for you at the appointed time.
Take a cue from other saints who have had to wait on God for big things, and realize that if God orchestrates the wait, He will definitely make it worth your while.
